On February 6, 2020, Associate Nandita Nayyar volunteered as a judge for UCI Law School’s Moot Court Oral Arguments. UCI Law’s moot court program is rapidly expanding with the number of student competitors almost doubling that of last year.
This year’s competition centered around Vos v. City of Newport Beach, 892 F.3d 1024 (9th Cir. 2018), a recent case involving the alleged use of excessive force in violation of the Fourth Amendment and failure to provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities under Title II of the American with Disabilities Act. In judging the preliminary oral argument rounds, Nandita provided challenging questions and valuable feedback to student participants, scoring their oral arguments and ultimately, determining which students moved on to the final rounds.
