On the weekend of November 13, 2021, Berger Kahn attorneys Erin Ezra, Nandita Nayyar, and Mallory Yumol volunteered as judges in UCI Mock Trial’s 2021 Anteater competition.

This year’s fictional case involved a charge of aggravated arson and the death of a firefighter. Student competitors demonstrated their incredible ability to piece together sound arguments and entertaining character witness performances—treating a simulated situation as authentic. As a presiding judge, Erin Ezra assessed oral arguments and made rulings on student objections.

Mallory Yumol noted the students’ display of professionalism on such a sensitive matter, “especially at the undergraduate level.”

Berger Kahn hopes to continue working with UCI Mock Trial, taking a front seat to witness and guide the next generation of legal professionals.
