Ann K. Johnston, managing partner of the firm’s Northern California office, has focused her practice on insurance bad faith and business litigation since 1989. She also has extensive experience advising major insurance carriers on coverage matters.
Ann has been named a Northern California Super Lawyer for 2007 and 2008 by San Francisco magazine and Law & Politics, Inc.
In her insurance practice, Ann focuses on defending insurance companies in commercial and personal lines first and third party insurance bad faith cases in state and federal courts. She has demonstrated continuing success in favorably resolving the majority of her cases by way of dispositive motion.
Ann also has first-chair trial experience, most recently obtaining a defense verdict in a commercial fire loss case after a two-week jury trial in Kishore Sarup dba Hi-Tech Auto v. Farmers Insurance Company, Inc. et al., Solano County Superior Court Case No. FCS 023309. She also provides insurance coverage advice to numerous carriers, including taking examinations under oath on first party property issues, and rendering written coverage opinions on a variety of property and liability issues. A frequent lecturer at seminars for claims personnel, Ann speaks on insurance coverage and claim handling issues.
In her business litigation practice, Ann has represented small business owners in various types of business litigation, including contract disputes and tort actions involving issues of general negligence, trade libel and conversion.
Ann received her B.A. from University of California, Irvine in 1986 and her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1989. She is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of California, the U.S. District Courts in the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She has also litigated cases in Nevada pro hac vice. She is a member of the San Francisco Bar Association, California Bar Association and American Bar Association. In addition, she is a volunteer for the San Francisco Court Appointed Special Advocate Program for abused and neglected children who have been placed under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Dependency Court.
Ann lives in San Francisco and enjoys the recreational and cultural opportunities the Bay Area has to offer, including hiking, skiing, and attending the symphony.
