Christy Han, an associate in Berger Kahn's Irvine office, concentrates her practice on business litigation and insurance coverage. Christy was recently named a 2010 Rising Star (top 2.5% of Southern California attorneys under 40 years old) in Super Lawyers magazine.

Christy has litigated cases in state and federal court, successfully prepared and argued numerous contested motions resulting in dismissal of cases, represented clients at mediation, negotiated complex settlements, and has jury trial experience. Some of her representative cases include:

  • Professional Negligence: Helped secure a seven-figure settlement for her client in a lawsuit against an insurance brokerage firm for failure to obtain adequate insurance coverage and limits.

  • Insurance Bad Faith: Successfully defended a major insurance company against a bad-faith lawsuit, in which the court awarded terminating sanctions (resulting in a dismissal judgment) and a five figure monetary sanctions award in favor of her client.

  • Insurance Coverage: Won summary judgment and an approximately $300,000 compensatory award in an equitable contribution case against another insurer.

  • Real Estate Fraud: Obtained pre-trial dismissal with prejudice involving a seven figure real estate transaction.

  • Product Liability: Successfully defended client with adverse exposure in the seven figure range. At trial, Christy served as co-counsel, gave the opening statement, assisted with voir dire, and cross-examined witnesses. After three days of trial, plaintiffs settled.

Christy graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in May 2006. While in law school, she received a three-year scholarship, represented her law school at the Wagner Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition in New York City, represented pro bono clients in federal Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings, and served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management.

Christy received her B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, where she graduated magna cum laude, was the recipient of four academic scholarships, and completed her undergraduate studies one year early.

Prior to law school, Christy was a business consultant at Deloitte Consulting, where she provided management and technology consulting services -- including business strategy development, web-based development, and implementation of business enterprise-wide information systems -- to Fortune 500 companies.

Active in her community and in an effort to encourage students to enter the legal profession, Christy has served as an attorney coach for the Garvey School’s Mock Trial team and has given informative presentations to local college students.

Christy was admitted to the California Bar in 2006. She is also fluent in Vietnamese.
