Allen L. Michel, managing partner of the Los Angeles office, is a principal with more than three decades of jury trial and appellate experience emphasizing litigation of complex business and real property disputes, professional liability matters, and insurance claims. Allen has twice been named a Southern California Super Lawyer in the area of Business Litigation. Fewer than five percent of California lawyers receive this distinction.
Allen's areas of expertise include:
- Real property litigation, including fraud, breach of contract and specific performance cases;
- Legal malpractice suits arising out of errors or claimed errors involving conflicts of interest, entertainment law and intellectual property matters, real property and mechanics lien law, bankruptcy matters and related corporate advice;
- Partnership disputes, including receiverships and complex accounting trials before special masters;
- Defense of insurance matters involving claims of bad faith or other tortious conduct; and
- Construction defect matters, especially for contractors and developers.
A graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (BA, 1971) and the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law (JD, 1975), Allen is admitted to practice in all four federal district courts in California, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the California State Bar Association, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers and the Beverly Hills Bar Association. Allen has lectured and written on legal malpractice issues, and is an expert consultant and witness in legal malpractice and state bar matters.
