Leon J. Gladstone is co-chair of Berger Kahn's Entertainment and Media Group and a founding member of the firm. He maintains a highly specialized entertainment law practice, providing entertainment insurance coverage advice and litigation expertise that few other lawyers can match. Leon has been recognized by his peers as a Southern California Super Lawyer in the area of Entertainment. Fewer than 5% of all lawyers in California receive this distinction.
Leon represents major U.S. entertainment insurers and completion guarantors, and is known throughout the industry as the "go to" lawyer when a production is shut down or delayed due to an unexpected event. He regularly advises companies that insure casts, film, equipment and locations on issues involving production interruption, destruction of sets and equipment, loss of footage, budget overruns, distribution and delivery issues, and related claims. Leon's extensive experience has been instrumental in getting dozens of productions back on schedule and on budget.
Leon also represents actors, directors, producers, screenwriters, publishers, production companies, distributors and authors, as well as a host of below-the-line talent with respect to the negotiation and documentation of financing, production, distribution, talent, publishing, touring and live event agreements, executive employment deals, and related transactions.
Leon is a frequent lecturer on various entertainment insurance topics.
He received his A.B., cum laude, from the University of California, Irvine in 1973 and his J.D. from Hastings College of Law, University of California in 1976.
Leon is a member of the Beverly Hills and Los Angeles County Bar Associations.
A father of three, Leon enjoys surfing, skiing and martial arts, having earned a black belt in karate. He is also a student of yoga and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
