Ryan Hirota is chair of the firm’s Commercial Real Estate Department and brings over 25 years of experience in real estate litigation and counseling. He also has broad experience handling complex civil litigation matters involving breach of contract, partnership disputes, and other business torts.

Ryan is involved in all aspects of litigation and dispute resolution, representing a broad range of clients, including agents, brokers, landlords, owners, tenants, management companies, developers, landowners, homebuilders, contractors and other small to mid-size companies. He has tried dozens of real estate cases as lead counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants, and has a track record of success representing clients in state and federal courts, mediations, arbitrations and before regulatory agencies.

Ryan also assists clients in negotiating and documenting transactions, including leases, mortgage transactions, easements, foreclosures and other agreements, as well as collection matters.

Ryan provides litigation and counseling services in several key areas, including:

Prior to joining Berger Kahn, Ryan was a name partner at Weiss Hirota & Associates in Long Beach.

Ryan has presided as a Judge Pro Tem for the Long Beach Superior Court since 1987. He is a former member of the Board of Governors of the Long Beach Bar Association and a past-president of that Association. He is also past president of Women Lawyers of Long Beach, the first male ever to preside over that organization. In 2004, Women Lawyers of Long Beach voted Ryan "Lawyer of the Year." Ryan also is a past president of the Downtown Lions Club of Long Beach, a chapter of the national service organization.

He received his B.S. from the University of California at Irvine in 1974 and his J.D. from Western State University College of Law in 1981.
